Daiwa Master Tenkara L LL36
10% off

The Daiwa Master Tenkara rods are the latest in a line of truly great rods. The first rods I imported from Japan were Daiwa Enshou tenkara rods. I thought they were wonderful. The LL rods, designed for level lines, had smooth, full-flex actions.

The Enshou rods were replaced by the Expert series. The Expert L LL ("long" level line) rods, named for their longer collapsed length, were even smoother and had even better damping.

The Master series raises the bar another notch. They are just wonderful rods. They might be the most technologically advanced tenkara rods available anywhere. You do not have to be a master to cast this rod, but if you can master the cast, this rod is phenomenal.

Daiwa Expert Tenkara Rods
15% to 25% off

The Daiwa Expert Tenkara rods are well named. You don't have to be an expert to use one, but if you are an expert tenkara angler you will very definitely notice and appreciate the quality of the design and the quality of the workmanship. They are an upgrade to the previous Enshou series. These are seriously nice rods!

The Daiwa Expert rods are made in two styles, one designed specifically for level lines (LL) and one designed for either level or tapered lines (LT).

Daiwa Expert Seiryu Rods
15% off

Daiwa describes the Expert Seiryu Rods as "Adult Play" rods that you can use anywhere from the headwaters to the ocean and for anything from micros to mebaru (small sea bass). Unlike any other seiryu rods, they come with cork grips.

They are extremely versatile rods, and can be fished with tenkara lines or keiryu lines, and the with a keiryu line you could use either yarn markers or a float. The rods carry a tippet rating from 5X all the way down to 10X.

Daiwa makes them in five lengths, of which I have three in stock: 4m, 4.5m and a two-hander 5.5m.

Shimano Keiryu Tenkara 34-38ZL
15% off

The Shimano Keiryu Tenkara 34-38ZL is designed to be the only rod you need for fishing mountain streams. The "keiryu" in the name is the Japanese word for mountain stream, so the name is essentially "Mountain Stream Tenkara 34-38ZL and should not be confused with "keiryu rod," the common name for rods designed for bait fishing.

It is a zoom rod which can be fished at lengths of 3.4 meters or 3.8 meters. Those two lengths do pretty much cover all the waters Japanese tenkara anglers fish, other than the honryu (main streams for which they generally would fish rods of about 4.5 meters in length).

The rod is a bit firmer at its shorter length, which is well suited to more precise casting to smaller targets. At the longer length, it is a delightfully smooth full flex rod. Even then, though, the hollow tip, which is found on all shimano tenkara rods, will give you tight looped fly first casts.

Tenryu Fly Rods
20% off

The remaining Tenryu Fates StreamWalker fly rods are 7'3". They are 3-wt rods. The rods differ not only in their length - they have very different actions. The 7'3" rod is described as having a fast action for pinpoint casting.
