First one on a small fly

First one on a small fly

Weather was so nice this weekend I decided to take a trip down to Birdsong Conservation area in Missouri and try out my new 5' Nissan Sasuke. Had a great time and managed to catch around 10 fish including a pretty little darter. I can't wait to go back and catch a some more.

Nice! Micro fishing really is a lot of fun. More people should try it.

Darter ID
by: Jeff D

That's probably an Orangethroat Darter. They are the most common darter in MO. But to really ID darters get a copy of Fishes of Missouri by William L. Pflieger.

Birdsong is one of my favorite places. I'm surprised but pleased to see activity this early.

Steve, what hook and bait / fly were you using?

Alan, I was fishing in the Cannon Branch creek that runs into Branch creek. I was using a little bit of worm on a Gamakatsu Tanago hook.

Gamakatsu tanago hook

I carry two Gamakatsu tanago hooks. The one Steve purchased is the Gamakatsu Smallest, not the Gamakatsu Ultimate.

Nissin Sasuke
by: Mike W.

Hey, Just ordered a Sasuke from Chris! Can't wait to get it! Wasn't too sure if I'd enjoy microfishing that much, but after receiving my Kiyotaki 21, I really wanted to go all out and get the sasuke! The KIyotaki has been fun for sunfish in some of the year round lakes here in Washington, (ponds) actually. So I think going all out and getting a "tanago" type rod will be a blast for the local micros such as sculpin! Tight lines and no reels! Mike W. Tacoma, Wa.

As age slows my pace, I will become more like the heron.

The hooks are sharp.
The coffee's hot.
The fish are slippery when wet.
