Asking for advice from Chris

by Jim Hopkins
(Sacramento, CA)

This is not a review of equipment, as such, but a review of the customer service I’ve gotten from Chris Stewart, aka Tenkara Bum.

With sooooo many possibilities and choices I’ve asked him for advice on various things, the latest pertaining to my infatuation with fly rod spoons, and last night an adjustment to an order that was in process with him.

It’s not just his business professionalism that impresses, but his honest enthusiasm to share his knowledge and experience. His recommendations are IMHO the absolute gold standard of advice. While this website is a cornucopia of tenkara information, his personal assistance is what puts Tenkara Bum at the pinnacle.

Thank you Chris Stewart!!

A new level of fishing!
by: Les Albjerg

It was about 3 years ago I bought my first Tenkara Rod. I knew it was a way I wanted to fish, however after decades of fishing fine fly rods, I knew there had to be better quality equipment than what I had bought. I contacted Chris for advice. He asked about my fishing and advised me to buy a Suntech Keiryu Sawanobori 63 as my first premium rod. Now that I know more, that was a bold and risky recommendation! However it was the perfect rod for where I was going to be fishing and the type of fish I was after! It not only took my fixed line fishing to a new level, but rekindled my love for fishing again! Customer service and Chris' knowledge is priceless!

Jim, I am a fly-rod spoon fanatic! Nice to know I am not alone! My preferred fly-rod spoon rods are the TenkaraBum 40 and the Suntech Fine Power 56.

I'd agree!
by: bill piatek

I would agree with you, He's provided help on rod and line choices and a ton of info.

I mainly fish Seiryu rods with eggs and other bait on streams so this is my main source for tackle. And he isn't a method snob.

Very Helpful
by: Kris Franqui

I have emailed Chris many times and he always responds quickly and thoroughly, with excellent advice and suggestions. Maybe that’s why the rods seem to be multiplying in my basement...

As age slows my pace, I will become more like the heron.

The coffee's hot.
The fish are slippery when wet.
