TenkaraBum Challenge - Channel Catfish

Channel Catfish

Channel Catfish

We received some much needed rain this weekend but all the creeks and rivers are high and muddy. I went to a small municipal lake I know is stocked with catfish to give it a try. I caught this one within minutes and spent a very peaceful hour in the rain walking around the lake, catching a few fish ( sunfish, another cat) and not seeing a soul.

The rig was my Daiwa Kiyose 43MF with a size 10 "hook up" killer bugger. I'm getting a post together on tying a bugger that rides hook up for bottom work.

Nice catch. I think I've had some of the same troubles as you in a few instances with trying to catch them in a stream and then dealing with weather. We have also been getting much needed rain here in OK. But yeah in the stream I could see huge schools of juvenile channel cats but just couldn't get one to take my fly. I even snagged one in the back by mistake they were so thick. The main problem though is getting a fly to the bottom before a sunfish takes it.

As age slows my pace, I will become more like the heron.

The hooks are sharp.
The coffee's hot.
The fish are slippery when wet.
