(My) First fish on Tenkara using a blue fly.
(Wheat Ridge, CO)
Blue Butted Bastard
I'm sure there has already been a "First Fish", but I wanted to share this one because it was MY first fish.
I have always wanted to fly fish, but never had the gear. I just got my own tenkara setup very recently and went out today for my first time fishing with it. I was fortunate enough to meet up with three experienced tenkara guys who showed me the ropes.
I tied what I affectionately call the Blue Butted Bastard. It's got a blue butt and is a bastardization of some of the more classic styles of tenkara fly. I left a bit of a segment between the peacock hurl and the taper of the yarn so that it would look more like a thorax on a bee.
Thanks for the blue yarn and for inspiring me to try something new!

As age slows my pace, I will become more like the heron.
The hooks are sharp.
The coffee's hot.
The fish are slippery when wet.
