TenkaraBum Winter Challenge
Size 20 hook, 2 cutthroat @ 14 inches and 1 bull trout @ 12 inches
(Elkford, BC, Canada)
I hooked these guys this morning on the Elk River in Elkford BC. The smallest hooks I could buy were the size 20 dry fly hooks from Mustad, so I tied a pink worm.
I previously tied some brown worms with orange thread (The Root Bear) on a long size 10 nymph hook on a recommendation from someone who worked at a fly shop. I haven't caught anything on the brown ones but the pink ones are unbelievably successful, often the first or second cast and I will get a strike. I didn't have any pink chenille so I stole some of my daughters hair elastics and they work great, so I went to the dollar store and loaded up. When I was tying them on bigger caddis hooks I would tie the hook end in with thread then wrap the elastic up the hook to the eye and tie off.
Great fun fishing the pink worm, hopefully I can hook up on a big Bully soon.

The hooks are sharp.
The coffee's hot.
The fish are slippery when wet.
