Tenkara Fly Fishing DVD - 2009

This is the only tenkara DVD in English. Professionally produced by Tenkara USA, it features Dr. Ishigaki's lecture and casting demonstration given at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in May 2009. Effectively the introduction of tenkara to the US, Dr. Ishigaki's lecture covers tenkara history, gear and techniques. His on-stream demonstration is a truly excellent introduction to tenkara casting. Although the DVD also has a video specifically on tenkara casting techniques, in which Daniel Galhardo of Tenkara USA demonstrates a number of different tenkara casts, including the traditional overhead cast, as well as an underhand cast, sidearm cast and slingshot cast, Dr. Ishigaki is the master. It is his style I would suggest trying to emulate. The DVD also includes "Tenkara in the Land of Little Rivers," which is a video introduction to tenkara and a series of brief interviews with Dr. Ishigaki, Ms. Misako Ishimura and myself. Other videos on the DVD include "Tenkara in Small Streams," "Tenkara in Large Streams," the "Tenkara, Get Into It" intro and "The Tenkara Experience." Most of the videos on the DVD are on the Tenkara USA website, where they can be viewed free of charge, but Dr. Ishigaki's Catskill's lecture and the on-stream demonstration are not on the website.
