Orvis Guide to Prospecting for Trout

The Orvis Guide to Prospecting for Trout pretty much starts where The Curtis Creek Manifesto leaves off. The Curtis Creek Manifesto will tell you how to catch fish in a stream. The Orvis Guide to Prospecting for Trout tells you not only how, but also where, when and why. The subtitle, "How to Catch Fish When There's No Hatch to Match" suggests that this book is a great resource for tenkara anglers. The reasons why Dr. Ishigaki's "one fly" approach works on the high gradient mountain streams on which tenkara was developed over hundreds of years are pretty effectively explained. The reasons why it might not always work quite so well on the wide variety of rivers and streams in the US are pretty effectively explained also. Since this is not a book on tenkara, there are parts of it that may not be applicable. You probably won't be fishing conehead muddlers, for example. The chapters on rich streams and poor streams, water reading and wet flies alone are probably worth the price of the book, though. Not too many people in the US fish wets, prefering nymphs and dries (even with their tenkara rods). With tenkara, wet flies are deadly. The Orvis Guide to Prospecting for Trout is $23. This is a big, heavy book. I can still ship it domestically for $3, but only on the book rate, which is a bit slower than first class, and can only be used for books/DVDs etc. Thus I cannot ship this book and flies or lines together for the $3 rate. International shipping is $11. Payment is through PayPal but you don't need to have a PayPal account. You can use your credit card. PayPal payments will be made to chris at tenkarabum dot com. Credit card statements will read CM Stewart. Orvis Guide to Prospecting for Trout - $23
