I recently acquired a Nissin Air Stage Honryu 380. I took it out this past Sunday to a little utility ditch located behind a bank. Fished for about an hour or two. Love the rod. I was using a #3 Sunline with 5x fluorocarbon tippet and the rod made casting easy. Even though I caught some small fish the rod had plenty of sensitivity to detect the strikes. I'll be taking the rod to New Mexico this weekend and to some trout waters. I'm certain it won't have any problems handling them!

Favorite rod

You mentioning the Honryu 380 reminded me - its my favorite rod. I now have a Nissin Pro Square 6:4 360 for creeks and a Daiwa 43M for heavy water or fish, but for most river fishing I like the Honryu 380. My previous favorite for that fishing was a Nissin ZeroSum 7:3 360,a lovely rod, but I found I liked the Honryu 380 even better.

And the Honryu has bent way over, been abused by accident, fighting some fish in some water, and like the Energizer Bunny it just keeps going.

many and not many
by: Rob Ruff

I did get to go to New Mexico and fish for trout with the Nissin Air Stage Honryu 380. The rod is very nice and it casted #3 and #3.5 level line with 5x fluorocarbon tippet using kebari. I caught many on one day and not many the next day. Most were 6 to 8 inch rainbows with the largest being 12 inches. I caught one brown trout also.
