Ishigaki Kebari Tying Kit

The Ishigaki Kebari Tying Kit includes a package of 25 Daiichi hooks, the materials* required to tie 25 Ishigaki Kebari, and step-by-step instructions. It is a great way for a beginner or experienced fly tier to try out a new pattern without having to buy a whole rooster saddle. For that matter, even a quarter saddle, if you can find one, will tie hundreds of kebari. If you just want to tie a few of the flies to see if you like the pattern, the Ishigaki Kebari Tying Kit is not a bad way to go.

I truly hate to say this, but these kits will probably be a "limited time offer." I am almost certain to run out of hackle. The hackle shortage you may have read about on various fly tying forums is real. I've been using Whiting 100s for my own tying of the Ishigaki Kebari and for the kits. Because I only tie one size, it makes a lot of sense to buy hackle that is all of the same size so there is no waste.

Not too long ago, I placed another order for fly tying supplies, and for the second time was told they didn't have any of the Whiting 100s in stock and didn't know when they were going to get any. After checking five different on-line stores, I found three packages of the hackle, which I immediately bought. Only one was in a color I was looking for, but if the other two packages were available I was going to take them.

For the first few kits I sent out, I included three feathers, even though I can tie 25 flies with two. I didn't want people to come up short. From here on in, the kits will only have the advertised two hackle feathers. Tie carefully and don't make any extra wraps. After all, these are wet flies. Since you're not trying to make them float, you really don't need much hackle.

One Fly Kit - Ishigaki Kebari

The step-by-step instructions are pretty much the same as shown on my Killer Bug page, but most people probably don't have their vise set up in front of the computer screen.

*Note: The US Postal service does not allow head cement to be sent though the mail, so I cannot include it in the kit.
